GVP Engineering College gets autonomous status

VISAKHAPATNAM: G.V.P. College of Engineering has bagged unique distinction of being the first Engineering College from among all engineering colleges affiliated to JNT University, Kakinada, to have been granted autonomous status by the UGC and also the JNTU-Kakinada, according to Principal of the College N.S.V.V.S.J. Gandhi.
The governing body of the autonomous college had its first meeting on June 14, 2009 and appointed various statutory bodies to manage the college as per UGC guidelines.
The students admitted into the first year in 2009-10 will be governed by the rules of the autonomous college.
The proposals include introduction of semester system from the first year itself and common curriculum for all branches in the first year.
The changes are in line with the practices adopted in some of the best engineering institutions in the country like IITs and NITs. GVP College of Engineering has also achieved the distinction of being accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of UGC with ‘A’ Grade with a score of 3.47 in a scale of 4, the highest from amongst the colleges affiliated to JNTU, Kakinada.
